Stray Cat Purrs With Gratitude After Being Rescued From Freezing Conditions
This elderly cat was half frozen, but thanks to the kind people who couldn’t bear to leave the poor animal all by itself, it was successfully rescued. What melted everyone’s hearts was this cat’s reaction.
When rescuers brought the old cat back from the brink, the cat was so thankful that he couldn’t stop purring and chirping with joy.
But, why did this cat need to be saved? Let’s go a bit further into the past!
A rescue group from Charleston, West Virginia, Itty Bitty Kitty Committee, received an urgent message from Eva from B.A.R.C. Boone Animal Rescue Coalition.
She found the ginger cat, who was “half frozen” and in desperate need of help. From that moment, their only mission was to do anything they could to save the poor kitty and give him the life he deserved.
Dorella Tuckwiller, founder of IBKC knew that it was an emergency the moment she saw that it was Eva who contacted them. She said:
“Eva only contacts me about the kitties that truly need more than they have to offer, so I knew (before I even saw a photo) that this kitty needed help now.”
Thanks to a kind woman called Nikki, this ginger boy was safely transported to the vet’s office. They wrapped him in a blanket to make him warm, and they showered him with love to make him more comfortable.
Everyone thought that the cat would be frightened to death, but on the contrary, the cat showed happiness and joy immediately after being rescued.
The ginger boy started purring from a single gentle touch. He didn’t have enough strength to open his eyes, but he had enough strength to purr and chirp out of joy.
During the examination, they realized this ginger boy was very old, but there was something more serious that bothered them about the cat. Dorella explained:
“The smell from him was awful. He was so skinny… He was immediately taken back for a combo test. The blood was drawn and I sat there and waited.”
They were afraid of the results, but luckily the cat tested negative for FIV. That test was like a green light for them to continue helping this poor soul, to get him back on track and provide him with everything he needs.
The cat was named Fargo, he was given a new name as a symbol of a new start and new life. And he even proved that because just one day after his rescue, he started doing better.
He could open his eyes much wider. He was eating and drinking like a champ! Whenever he was touched, he let out thunder-like purrs and chirps.
Poor little Fargo probably spent most of his life alone, and if he hadn’t been rescued he wouldn’t live much longer, that’s for sure. However, that was before, and now, Fargo had a chance to start a new life and enjoy his retirement.
“Fargo sure is living the life with his foster family. (We will not adopt the boy out, we are basically hospice until his very last breath.) Other than old age, medically, he’s doing fine.”
Fargo was found in a seriously bad condition, therefore, it’s not a surprise that he has only one tooth left. Because of that, his diet consists of wet food only, but he absolutely loves it!
Emiley Schoolcraft, Fargo’s foster mom, is very happy to have such a sweet old cat. She said:
“He is so incredibly sweet, his purr is unlike anything I’ve ever heard! When he gets feisty, he nibbles your hand with his one tooth.”
She also added:
“We are unsure of the amount of time he has left on this earth, what we are sure of is the love we have for this sweet old boy and the amount of love he has for us.”
Fargo is aware that he wouldn’t be where he is today if it weren’t for his rescuers, vets, and foster parents. He’s a fighter, that’s for sure. He used most of his nine lives, and he rises again after every fall.
Just imagine how cool it would be if he could talk… imagine all the stories he could tell! I would definitely enjoy listening to him.
Still, the most important thing is that this old (but adorable) ginger boy, Fargo, is now enjoying his retirement in the home that he always wanted.
He’s a tough little guy with a gentle heart and an incredible purring machine!
