Despite Her Blindness, Brave Mama Cat Finds Help For Her Precious Babies
A mother’s love has no boundaries, and this blind feline is a true example. After wandering for years and looking for a forever home, she finds a family and leads them to her kittens.
An elderly couple noticed a stray cat wandering around their residence. Their son approached the cat and quickly noticed that the cat’s eyes were crusted shut.
The poor blind kitty was determined to go somewhere, so the son decided to follow her. To his surprise, the kitty led him to her tiny kittens that she had been caring for.
The son knew he had to do something to help, so he contacted Coastal Bend Cat Rescue in Corpus Christi, Texas. Mary Huckabee, CBCR Officer, said:
“He contacted our rescue for help. At the time, the cat was thought to have bad eye infections that sealed her eyes closed.”
The Texas rescue welcomed the blind cat Clue and her babies and provided them with a foster home.
Unfortunately, the furry family had a lot of issues, probably due to the bad conditions they were living in. Two of the kittens were malnourished and had symptoms of an upper respiratory infection.
After examining the mother cat, the vets realized that she didn’t have normal eye tissue, meaning she was completely blind.
Despite her blindness, she did everything she could to take care of her kittens. She quickly settled in her new comfy bed with her babies nursing on her belly. Mary said:
“Our vet thinks she has congenital microphthalmia, born with very small or absent eyes. She will need enucleation to prevent recurrent infections. Being blind doesn’t bother her at all. Mama Clue was very protective of her babies.”
With proper medical care and a safe place to stay, the kittens started improving and gaining some weight.
Whenever the kittens were taken out for treatment or to be weighed, Clue would make sure that her babies would quickly be returned to her loving paws. Mary added:
“Occasionally she would be surprised when a baby would meow from a place where she didn’t expect.”
Soon after, the kittens started to get more active and would explore their surroundings, but Mama Clue wasn’t pleased when the kittens would escape outside the mama-approved safe zone. Mary said:
“She would carry them back to ‘their place’ over and over before she realized she was fighting a losing battle and that her babies were now ready to explore.”
Little by little, Clue relaxed and turned into an affectionate kitty. She enjoyed the company of her humans, especially receiving head scratches or belly rubs. Mary said:
“She starts making biscuits as soon as her foster mom enters the enclosure.”
Everyone was so proud of Clue and how quickly she adjusted to indoor life.
“Even though she was an outdoor cat for her whole life and blind, she figured out the litter box right away, and is thrilled to be living a life of luxury now.”
The whole furry family was thriving in foster care, revealing their true personalities. Mary said:
“Candyland is sassy and likes to talk. She is the most adventurous of the kittens. Monopoly is a laid-back girl. She loves to roll around and get belly rubs. She is starting to practice her pouncing skills on her sisters. Chutes and Ladders were initially the most standoffish, but now that she doesn’t have to get drops in her eyes multiple times a day, she is the first to waddle over and climb into her foster mom’s lap.”
After years of wandering outside and living in bad conditions, Clue is enjoying her life as an indoor cat. She can finally relax, never having to worry about food, a safe place to stay and other potential dangers
