440-Powered 1970 Dodge Challenger



This 1970 Dodge Challenger coupe comes in a white exterior finish with black upholstery. Under the hood, it’s equipped with a 440ci V8 engine paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. The car features a sport hood, R/T badges, quad exhaust outlets, Rallye 14” wheels, staggered-width tires, and front disc brakes.

Since the seller acquired the vehicle in 2020, several upgrades have been made. These include the installation of an MSD electronic ignition module, an Edelbrock 650-cfm carburetor, and a Performer intake manifold.

This Dodge Challenger is currently available in Ohio and comes with a comprehensive set of service records dating back to 2019. Additionally, it includes transferable New York registration, which is currently in the seller’s name.

The car left the factory finished in Light Gold Metallic (FY4) and with Special Edition styling treatments. A repaint in white was performed under prior ownership and extends to the engine compartment and door jambs. R/T badges have been added to the grille and fenders, and other details include a full-size rear window, a chrome side mirror, dual hood scoops, and quad exhaust outlets. Ground wires for the taillight sockets are said to have been added under current ownership. The seller notes that prior repairs to the right-rear quarter panel are evident, that the front valance is misaligned and dented, that the trunk floor has paint imperfections and pinholes, and that the trunk lid is difficult to close.

Rallye 14” wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires measuring 235/60 up front and 275/60 out back. Braking is provided by unassisted discs up front and drums at the rear. Curb marks and blemishes are visible on the wheels, one of which is missing its center cap and trim ring. The seller notes a steering-fluid leak and that the tires are due for replacement.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in black upholstery with color-coordinated door panels and carpeting. Woodgrain trim accents the steering wheel, dashboard, center console, and doors. The seller states that the car is not equipped with a horn, the windshield wipers do not self-park, the quarter windows do not wind down, the door-window regulators may require service, and the radio has been removed. The car has controls for air conditioning, but such a system is no longer present; the heater has not been tested.

Factory instrumentation consists of a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges, while an AutoMeter tachometer has been added to the steering column. A trio of Auto Gage auxiliary gauges is mounted below the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 90k miles, approximately 1k of which have been added under current ownership. True mileage is unknown, and the seller notes that the speedometer is inaccurate and noisy.

The replacement 440ci V8 was installed under prior ownership and rebuilt in 2019 with a camshaft, timing set, and valve springs sourced from Comp Cams. An MSD electronic ignition module was installed under current ownership along with an Edelbrock AVS2 650-cfm carburetor, an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, and an Edelbrock electric fuel pump. The seller notes an occasional ticking sound from the passenger-side cylinder head, engine hesitation while running, and that the voltage meter sometimes drops to around 11.5 to 12.0 volts while the car is being driven.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement A727 three-speed automatic transmission. A leak is noted, and the kickdown function is inoperative.

The fender tag indicates that the vehicle left the factory as a 1970 Challenger SE hardtop (JH29) equipped with a 318ci V8 featuring a two-barrel carburetor (E44) along with a three-speed A904 automatic transmission (D31). The tag also reveals that the car was originally finished in Light Gold Metallic (FY4) with a black full vinyl top (V1X) over a bucket-seat interior with black leather upholstery (HRX9).

The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a state that does not issue titles for vehicles of its age. It is being sold on its transferable New York registration.
