Comet, a one-year-old Florida cat, was discovered limping and blind in one eye after being shot repeatedly with a BB pistol. Fortunately, Comet’s savior transported the mistreated cat to Helping Paws Humane Society, where workers removed pellets from all over the injured cat’s body, according to blog.theanimalrescuesite.

However, Comet’s injuries went beyond being used for target practice. “He was limping because his leg was diseased and damaged in four places,” Karen B., a shelter worker, told Waggle. Unfortunately, because to the severity of Comet’s injuries, vets were forced to amputate him.

Amputation surgery, on the other hand, is prohibitively expensive, especially for a non-profit group striving to make ends meet during a pandemic. Fortunately for Comet, Animal Rescue Site readers learned of his plight and contributed to the limb surgery he need to live a healthy, pain-free life.

“Thank you for your support of Comet, our cat who was discovered needing substantial medical treatment after being abused by his owners,” Comet’s caregivers informed Waggle, which collaborated with The Animal Rescue Site to provide the injured cat with lifesaving care.

“We are thrilled to tell you that Comet was adopted by a vet technician who is able to manage his ongoing health issues– he has since received further tests and vet procedures and is one step closer to recovery,” Helping Paws Humane Society explained.

Furthermore, Comet’s new home includes a tripod cat, who will most likely be very helpful in training Comet how to walk on three legs!

“Comet is doing fantastic and is extremely pleased in his new forever home,” rescuers said. “Thank you once more for assisting us in providing the greatest medical care for cats like Comet so they can live their best lives!”
