When some cats see children approaching, they quickly run away. But not Binx.
Binx has a special fondness for the kids in his neighborhood, especially a little girl named Lainey.
Lainey and Binx’s friendship blossomed when Lainey would take daily walks with her family. This was during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and Lainey couldn’t play with other children.
“Back in March 2020, we started taking daily walks around our neighborhood, which is when we first met Binx. He took to our daughter quickly and started greeting her as soon as he saw her coming,” said Lainey’s mom, known as thecolorfulmother on TikTok.
Initially, Lainey would approach Binx, and he would allow her to come close.
Some cats are cautious around children due to their sudden and unpredictable movements.
But Binx was different; he was not afraid of Lainey. Soon, he began running up to greet her before she could reach him.
“He [Binx] became a sweet friend to her during such isolating times with no kids to play with,” said Lainey’s mom.
Their friendship continued even after the pandemic, and they both looked forward to seeing each other every day.
“The love has lasted through the years. He even comes to visit us at our house,” said Lainey’s mom.
According to an Oregon State University study, “the majority of cats use humans as a source of comfort.”
Maybe that’s why Binx liked Lainey so much. Or perhaps he just found her really cool.
Regardless, they spent a lot of time together over the past few years.
However, their regular meetings were about to end. During a recent walk, Lainey and her mom saw a “For Sale” sign in front of Binx’s house.
This meant Binx was moving, and Lainey would have to say her final goodbye.
“We are very sad but thankful for the joy he brought her when we all really needed it,” said Lainey’s mom.
Lainey’s mom recorded their final goodbye on video, which brought her to tears.
She posted it on TikTok, and it moved the rest of the internet to tears as well.
“I sobbed at the end – our sweet neighborhood pets definitely hold a place in our hearts,” commented one TikTok user.
“He wanted your little daughter to remember that unlike many people think, black cats are awesome! And maybe one day she’ll remember and get one,” another commenter added.
“Thank you so much for making this. Binx had a really special relationship with the kids in our neighborhood. It was just so beautiful,” said a neighbor.
