Male Cat Takes Paw-ternity Leave To Support Mama Cat In Labor
Everyone always says that male cats don’t like kittens, but I keep stumbling upon stories that say otherwise. For example, in this one, a male cat stayed by his ‘wife’s’ side during labor.
Their owner shared a video on TikTok that went viral instantly! Everyone praised the ‘dad cat’ and called him ‘father of the year’ for staying alongside mama cat while she gave birth.
In the video below you can see the two kitties lying next to each other in a cardboard box prepared for the birth of kittens. Santos, the father cat, first jumps up and checks out his ‘wifey’ and then jumps inside to comfort her and be by her side.
This incredible cat cuddles his ‘wife’, grooms her, and kneads her, and once she gives birth to their first kitten, the ‘baby daddy’ (as TikTokers dubbed him) snuggles up next to her.
Their owner even captioned the video “Best dad award goes to Santos” and before they knew it, the video gained more than 4M views.
However, it is important to know that cases like these are quite rare and even though sometimes it happens that male cats take care of kittens, it’s important to be cautious.
Santos is one of those rare cases and even more than that! Not only does he like his kittens, but he takes such good care of mama cat. He stayed with her through the entire labor and birth process.
Later on he wouldn’t move an inch, he snuggled beside her and their babies. More than 3000 people commented on their video, saying how that’s the cutest thing they’ve ever seen or talking about how it melted their hearts. One user commented:
“Better dad than most humans.”
And while many others added to the praise, the follow-up video made it clear that Santos really is the best dad ever! He stayed beside his wife and babies, and many people commented, referring to the first video, ‘Still the best dad.’
Santos and Poppy are true couple goals, making my heart all warm and fuzzy. Did you feel it?
I hope you enjoyed their story and that it brought you joy, unlike TikTok user BestBee, who commented:
“Why am I sad over my cat being a single parent?”
Haha, well, this gets us sometimes. Poor female felines mostly end up alone, but hey, they still have us!
