This 1970 Ford Torino Cobra represents a SportsRoof coupe model, initially delivered to Sierra Ford located in San Bernardino, California. Subsequently, it found its way from Canada to the current owner in 2015. The car boasts a red exterior finish complemented by black vinyl upholstery on the interior. Its power is derived from a 429ci V8 engine, which is mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Noteworthy features include a Ram Air shaker hood, a four-barrel carburetor, dual Flowmaster mufflers, 15” wheels resembling the Magnum 500 style, front disc brakes, rear window louvers, a Hurst T-handle shifter, and a push-button AM radio.
During the present ownership, various tasks were undertaken to enhance the vehicle. These included a refurbishment of the engine bay for cosmetic purposes, a rebuild of the carburetor, and routine maintenance such as an oil change and battery replacement, all in preparation for the upcoming sale. This particular Torino Cobra is being offered for sale through a dealer consignment arrangement. The sale will include accompanying documentation like the original window sticker, a Deluxe Marti report, partial service records, and a clean title from Nebraska.
The car was finished from the factory in Medium Red (T) and is said to have been refinished under previous ownership. The car features a black Tu-Tone shaker hood, exposed hood pins, color-keyed mirrors, chrome bumpers, rear window louvers, and dual exhaust outlets with bright finishers. Close-up images of paint chips on the lower rear valance, passenger-side fender, and driver-side door along with other exterior blemishes are presented in both the photo and video galleries below. The selling dealer notes a crack in the black paint on the hood.
The vehicle features 15” wheels styled after the Magnum 500 design, and these wheels are paired with F60-15 Firestone Wide Oval white-letter tires. Additionally, the car comes equipped with power steering, while the braking system incorporates power-assisted front disc brakes and rear drum brakes.
The front bucket and rear bench seats are trimmed in black vinyl and accompanied by color-coordinated door panels and carpeting. Additional appointments include a Hurst T-handle shifter, a heater/defroster, front and rear lap belts, a push-button AM radio, and a “Cobra” dash badge.
The two-spoke steering wheel frames a sweeping 120-mph speedometer, an in-dash ribbon tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 13k miles, approximately 100 of which have been added under current ownership. True mileage is unknown.
The 429ci V8 is equipped with a shaker scoop, a four-barrel carburetor, and a replacement camshaft. The carburetor was refurbished and the engine and engine bay were refreshed in 2015; photos of service records detailing the 2015 refurbishment work by Mike’s Classic Cars of Elkhorn, Nebraska are provided in the gallery. An oil and filter change was performed and the battery was replaced in anticipation of the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed close-ratio manual transmission and a Traction-Lok rear differential with a 3.50:1 gear ratio. The car is equipped with dual Flowmaster mufflers, and additional underside photos are presented in the gallery.
The Deluxe Marti report is paired with a reproduction window sticker. These documents detail the car’s factory options, equipment, and production information along with initial delivery to Sierra Ford of San Bernardino, California.
