Exploring the Iconic 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Coupe 396 4-Speed
This 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS coupe was originally purchased from Kizzier Chevrolet in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. It later spent some time in Wyoming before coming into the possession of the current seller’s father in August 2001. The vehicle is equipped with a 396ci V8 engine paired with a Muncie M21 four-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt rear axle. Its exterior is painted in yellow, and it features black vinyl upholstery.
Additional notable attributes include a black vinyl roof, black side stripes, power steering, power front disc brakes, 14″ Super Sport wheels, a Muncie shifter, and a push-button radio. Presently, the Chevelle SS is being offered for sale by the seller on behalf of the current owner, and it comes complete with manufacturer’s literature, delivery documents, a Protect-O-Plate, a car cover, 1994 parts invoices, and a Wyoming title.
The car left the factory finished in SS-specific Daytona Yellow (76) and features include a black vinyl roof covering, a left side mirror, an SS 396 grille and badging, black side stripes, hood cowls, chrome trim and bumpers, and a dual-outlet exhaust that exits below the rear bumper. The decklid is said to have been repainted under prior ownership and does not match the body color. There are areas of paint touch-ups, chips, and, scratches as well as dings in the doors and rust on the right rocker panel.
The 14″ Super Sport wheels wear chrome trim rings and SS center caps and are mounted with 225/60 Kelly Charger Radial white-letter tires, which are cracking. A full-size spare is mounted in the trunk. The car is equipped with power steering, rear air shock absorbers, and power-assisted front disc brakes.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in black vinyl joined by a color-coordinated console, dashboard cover, carpets, and door panels. Equipment includes a Muncie shifter, a push-button Delco radio, a heater and defroster, and Deluxe seat belts.
The two-spoke steering wheel is cracked and frames a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a multifunction gauge with an inset tachometer. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 60k miles, approximately 530 of which were added under current ownership.
The 396ci Turbo Jet V8 features a Rochester four-barrel carburetor, an aluminum intake manifold, and a chrome air cleaner lid and valve covers. An oil change was performed most recently in 2021. The seller notes that smog equipment and brackets were removed from the engine and that the engine leaks oil.
The engine serial number is displayed on the stamping above.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Muncie four-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt rear differential. A replacement dual exhaust system has been installed. Additional underside images are presented in the gallery.
Manufacturer’s literature, delivery documents, a Protect-O-Plate, a car cover, and 1994 parts invoices accompany the sale.
