Chicks Dig Cool Cats

Oscar the cat is what you imagine when you think of the quintessential cat. He’s a grey tabby and delightfully chubby. Napping makes him happy. Food is an ultimate pleasure. And, he looks at the world like he’s bored. Unless he’s looking at his baby chicks.

Yes, you read that right.

His baby chicks.

And this is where our view of cats goes sideways a bit when it comes to Oscar. We as cat lovers know the true depth of kitty cat hearts. When a cat makes a connection with another being, they’re loving, doting, and oh-so-snuggly creatures. While we generally think of humans, or even other kitties, as a cat’s usual object of affection, Oscar proves cats are softies for fuzzy babies of all species.

Some time ago, Catsparella.com caught up with Oscar’s dad, Jack, for a quick Q&A and we learned a little about the famous gray tabby we’ve fallen in love with thanks to his love for chicks.

Well into his teens, Oscar is considered a senior cat and this mess of chicks isn’t the first litter he’s helped care for. Jack regularly hatches eggs and the little birds stay in their United Kingdom household for the first six weeks of life. Like kittens 6 weeks and under, tiny chicks are vulnerable to the world, susceptible to illness and predators. Sweet tabby cat Oscar often helps nurture the hatchlings.
