A Sigh Of Relief When Sad Kitten Opens His Heavenly Eyes

There are few things more miraculous than a living being that survives and thrives against all odds. As cat lovers, we know firsthand how precious their lives are. Felines are not only beautiful; they are faithful companions who brighten even our darkest days. This story begins tragically, but its ending will surely lift your spirits. We are always amazed and excited when a tale, like the cat in this story, turns around thanks to kind people who go out of their way to help kitties in need. Animal rescuers are everyday heroes who can be overlooked. But we know that they deserve all the praise in the world!

Recently, a tiny, bedraggled kitten was found wandering in a commercial parking lot in Alberta, Canada, and brought to an animal control center. The kitten, later named Ziggy, was in a terrible state—frail, filthy, and suffering from a severe ringworm infection that left him sore, irritated, and barely able to open his eyes. Rescuers from the Little Cats Lost Society described him as one of the most pitiful Persian cats they had ever seen.

Ziggy’s luck began to change when Erin McDonald, a volunteer foster mom, heard about his situation. She quickly went to the shelter to bring him home, recognizing that Ziggy needed specialized care. The shelter determined he required a caregiver experienced in handling serious health issues, and McDonald, with her ability to provide an isolation area, was the perfect fit.

Upon meeting Ziggy, McDonald noticed his bright, inquisitive eyes despite his frail state, and her heart went out to him. To prevent the spread of ringworm to her other pets, Ziggy needed to be kept in isolation, and McDonald had to wear protective gear during their interactions. Despite his condition, Ziggy quickly showed his affectionate nature, thriving on the love and attention he received.

Ziggy began a rigorous treatment routine, which included oral medication and medicated baths twice a week. Gradually, he started to show signs of recovery. His ringworm tests eventually came back negative, allowing him to leave isolation. Ziggy adapted well to his new environment, forming bonds with McDonald’s other cats and showing a playful side that had been hidden by his earlier suffering.

However, just as Ziggy seemed to be fully recovering, new spots appeared on his skin, suggesting the infection might not be completely gone. Despite this setback, Ziggy continued to thrive and reveal more of his playful personality. McDonald remains hopeful about his future, though she acknowledges that he may never be completely free of the infection, which could make it difficult to find him a permanent home.

The National Park Service has a plan to potentially euthanize up to 170 feral cats under the guise of nuisance control. Demand a policy that protects these cats!

Nevertheless, Ziggy will always have a place with McDonald and her family, who are committed to providing him with a loving home, regardless of what the future holds.
