Legendary Street Race in 1979: 1970 Cougar Eliminator Takes on 1969 Camaro Drag Car

In the world of muscle cars, there are few matchups that can compare to a 1970 Cougar Eliminator with a modified Boss 351C motor going up against an all-out 1969 Camaro drag car. This was exactly the scenario that played out in 1979 when Dieters’ 1970 Cougar Eliminator took to the streets for some high-stakes street racing.

The Cougar Eliminator was a high-performance version of the Mercury Cougar that was produced from 1969 to 1970. It was designed to compete with other muscle cars of the time, such as the Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger. The Eliminator was available with a variety of engines, including the rare modified Boss 351C motor, which was capable of producing up to 330 horsepower. It was also available with the Drag Pak performance package for the 428 CJ engine, which included a four-speed manual transmission, a 3.91:1 rear axle ratio, and heavy-duty cooling and suspension components.

In 1970, the Boss 302 engine was also available as one of the three engine options for the Cougar Eliminator. Interestingly, the Boss 302-powered Cougar had no special name to indicate the powerful racing motor under the hoo.

The 1969 Camaro, on the other hand, was also a high-performance muscle car that was designed to compete with the likes of the Mustang and the Challenger. It was available with a variety of engines, including the powerful 427 cubic inch V8 engine that was capable of producing up to 425 horsepower.

In 1979, when Dieters’ 1970 Cougar Eliminator and the all-out 1969 Camaro drag car took to the streets for some high-stakes street racing, it was a battle of the titans. While it’s unclear who came out on top in this particular matchup, one thing is for sure: both cars were impressive specimens of the muscle car era.

In conclusion, the 1970 Cougar Eliminator and the 1969 Camaro drag car were two of the most iconic muscle cars of their time. While their matchup in 1979 may have been just one of many street races that took place during the muscle car era, it remains a legendary moment in the history of American muscle cars.
