Timeless Legacy: The 24-Years-Owned 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 4-Speed
Manufactured in May 1970, this 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 became the property of the current seller in 1999. Over the years, various efforts have been invested, including giving the body a new coat of Calypso Coral paint and performing a comprehensive rebuild on the 302ci V8 engine, the four-speed manual transmission, and the Traction-Lok rear differential.
Notable features encompass front and rear spoilers, a tachometer mounted on the hood, a Shaker hood, power steering, 15″ Magnum 500-style wheels, black vinyl upholstery, an AM radio, and a heating system. Presently, this Boss 302 is being made available and comes with a Marti Report, records of service, awards, as well as a clean Minnesota title that is registered under the seller’s name.
Originally leaving the factory in Calypso Coral, the vehicle received a new finish during a prior ownership period. Noteworthy exterior elements comprise a front spoiler, hockey stick side stripes, a Shaker hood, dual side mirrors, rear window louvers, a rear spoiler, and dual exhaust outlets. In the provided image gallery below, close-up shots reveal paint chips on the front end, a slightly wrinkled front spoiler, and a scuff on the right-front fender.
The car features 15″ Magnum 500-style wheels that are fitted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires in the front and Centennial Interceptor Radial 60 tires in the rear. Originally equipped with power steering from the factory, the vehicle also has aftermarket rear traction bars installed. Braking duties are managed by power-assisted front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. In preparation for the sale, the parking brake assembly has been adjusted.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black vinyl. Interior appointments include manual crank windows, a Hurst shifter, an AM radio, and a heater.
The steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a hood-mounted 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure, temperature, fuel level, and amperage. An aftermarket auxiliary gauge pod has been installed in front of the shifter. The five-digit odometer shows 83k miles, approximately 5k of which were added under current ownership.
The 302ci V8 was rebuilt in 2006 utilizing a replacement block and an aftermarket camshaft. Work completed at that time also included reconditioning the connecting rods, balancing the rotating assembly, and installing replacement valve seats. A Mallory electronic ignition has been installed. The carburetor was rebuilt and an oil change was performed in August 2023.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok differential with 3.70:1 gearing.
The Marti Report lists factory colors, equipment, and a May 25, 1970 build date.
