It was the middle of the night when the little dog arrived at the Tri-County Animal Rescue shelter in Boca Raton, Florida, after being thrown over their fence and landing next to the dumpster. A shelter staff member posted her first impression of Parker on her Facebook page. She was found there, a stinky, knotted ball of fur.
โAs many of you saw on the news, when Parker was thrown over our fence near the dumpster in the middle of the night, our shelter was honored to save her.โ Despite the fact that her hair was stuck to her skin, her nails were so long that they wrapped around her paws, and her wounds were filled with maggots, I will never forget the way she smelled.โ
A team of veterinarians immediately went to work to help save the dogโs life. โI have never seen anything like this before, and I hope I never see it again,โ they said. As they wrote, โ5 staff members spent over two hours carefully shaving her, changing probes when they got hot, suturing open wounds and culturing everything,โ they spent over two hours shaving her. โOur vet discovered mammary tumors and her eyes were open all the time due to the presence of nodes,โ they added.
We told her that the worst was behind her, that she needed to be strong, that she was loved. The eye wasnโt even fully formed and her temperature was starting to drop. We told her that she was loved, and that the worst was behind her.โ
It was clear that Parker had suffered neglect and torment for so many years that her rescuers werenโt sure she would survive the night. But she did survive. And she survived the next night, and the next. More miracles followed. Parker started eating again!
It was explained in the rescue post why Parkerโs arrival was called a blessing. โI know some of you might say, because of my use of the word blessing, that it shouldnโt have happened at all. I totally agree. We donโt even know her original name or if she ever had one. Whatever the reason Parker was brought to us, our veterinary staff kept her alive because of her courage, quick thinking and incredible expertise.โ
In the Humane Societyโs opinion, Parker was kept in a cage and used for breeding. To find out who disposed of Parker and to see if there are other dogs like Parker in need of rescue, they have opened an investigation and are working with the Palm Beach County Sheriffโs Office.
According to WPBF News, Tri-Humane is optimistic about Parkerโs recovery and hopes she will be ready for adoption in September.
A walk on the grass is another accomplishment for her, considering when she first arrived she couldnโt walk at all.
