Tremendous! A 1968 Dodge Charger Wins Almost $10 For The One Who Revived It

The second-generation Charger was a roaring success for Dodge when they unleashed it on American roads in 1968. This 5.2-liter V8-powered pony remained a favorite among gearheads until 1971, when Dodge gave the Charger a redesign. These classic muscle cars are still in high demand to this day, and a 1968 Charger in fair condition will set you back over $35,000.

That potential value is what prompted Richard Rawlings to pick up a dilapidated model. He’s challenged the Gas Monkey Garage team to restore this vintage muscle car to its former glory in the latest video on their YouTube channel.

The Gas Monkey Garage Revive This 1968 Dodge Charger

The video kicks off with the Gas Monkey Garage team bringing this vintage Dodge to the garage on the back of a truck. The exterior of the car looks relatively clean, except for a few patches of rust on the paneling. Apart from a thick coat of dust, the interior of the car also appears to be sound. The team quickly strips the car down, then embark on the slow process of building it back up and isolating any issues they discover. They rework the wiring, metal trimmings, and interior panels before they tackle the engine.

After several start attempts, some flames, and plenty of tinkering, they manage to get this old V8 running. It’s not all smooth sailing though. There are plenty of electrical issues to fix, and they even uncover some rodent damage. After some more work on the transmission and brakes, the car is finally running and they can drive it into the daylight. It looks like this project is starting to bear fruit.

But before they can continue their restoration work, a friend of Richard Rawlings visits the garage and makes an offer for the Dodge Charger. Rawlings had bought the car for $18,000 and managed to sell it despite it needing plenty of more work. He makes a quick profit of $7,000 on this muscle car. He also manages to convince his friend to buy a 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS that was at the garage for $36,300.

After waving goodbye to the Dodge, Richard explains that he’s been on the lookout for a mid-1980s Ford F-150 Stepside for quite some time, and now he’s finally located one in California.

These trucks usually have a lot of rust, but this model looks really clean and is running perfectly. These old F-150 Stepsides can take a lot of modifications, so it’ll be interesting to see the results of this particular build when it is complete.
