The Beginning of a Legend
The original 1970 Mustang Fastback was a remarkable vehicle on its own, with a powerful 5.8-liter V8 engine that delivered an impressive 335 horsepower. However, Chip Foose saw the potential for something truly special when he got his hands on it. His goal was to create a Mustang that was not only powerful and fast but also stylish and unique.
Under the Hood
The first step in transforming the Mustang was to upgrade its engine. Foose replaced the original V8 with an Eagle H-beam connecting rods, Ford Racing forged aluminum dished pistons with full floating pins, and Super Cobra Jet aluminum cylinder heads. These modifications boosted the engine’s power to an incredible 600 horsepower, making it a true force to be reckoned with. Foose also added a Holley Dominator carburetor and a custom air cleaner, further improving the engine’s performance.
Transmission and Cooling
Of course, a powerful engine needs a capable transmission to match, and Foose delivered with an Art Carr C6 transmission and stall converter. To keep the engine running cool, Foose installed a Griffin 3 core aluminum radiator and matching electric Flex-a-Lite fan. These upgrades ensure that the Mustang can handle even the most demanding driving conditions with ease.
Interior and Exterior
No custom car would be complete without attention paid to both the interior and exterior. Foose’s modifications to the 1970 Mustang Fastback did not disappoint in this regard. He added a Vintage air conditioning system to keep the occupants comfortable, as well as Cobra seats out of a U.P. Eleanor and a custom-made center console covered in leather. The steering wheel was also custom-made, and the doors and trunk were fitted with remote controls.
On the exterior, Foose added a custom modified BOSS 429 scoop, new glass all the way around, all new trim and chrome, and custom-made bumpers both front and rear. The car was painted in a unique color scheme that mixed 2005 Jaguar British Racing Green with Red Rust Pearl and satin stripes on the side. The result is a Mustang that looks as good as it performs.
