A 1969 Boss 429 Mustang rebuilt from an NBA star with an 8.4-liter V8

There are classic Ford Mustangs and there are really special Mustangs, such as the revered Boss 429. The 1969 and 1970-model year cars got produced in less than 1360 examples, and the project was in fact a way to homologize Ford’s 7-liter engine for NASCAR.

HOTCARS VIDEO OF THE DAY

Ford’s Mustang was always a pony car, but with 375 hp, the 429 had muscle car blood flowing through its vital arteries. Nowadays, the big Boss is worth big money, but this 1969 Boss 429 Mustang restomod from Classic Recreations threatens to give it a run for its money.

Here’s what Vehicle Virgins on YouTube uncover after their time with the machine, that takes the best parts of the Boss and adds some modern know-how.

A 1969 Boss 429 Mustang Restomod From An NBA Star

Vehicle Virgin’s host is reviewing the muscle car, made by the only officially-authorized company to make continuation models of the 429. This one’s for sale, owned by NBA player Austin Rivers. He told the host that his life consists of basketball, family and cars – it’s not hard to see why he likes this one.

Why he wants to sell it is more perplexing. Fuel economy could be an issue though: the car houses an 8.4-liter V8 that cranks out 815 hp.

With that kind of power, the brakes and suspension needed a rework. It all starts with a ’69 Mustang that gets restored to factory condition, and then the brakes, engine and suspension get an overhaul.

The multi-link suspension includes adjustable coil overs, and the car is sporting wide low-profile tires to get that power down. If the original 375-hp Boss 429 Mustang can hit 60 mph in under 7 seconds, this machine with comfortably more than double the power should be quick indeed.

How Much Does The Boss 429 Mustang Cost In 2023?

In the video, the car looks resplendent in black, with the new chin spoiler, hood scoop and wide tires leaving a lasting impression.

The pair remark that these muscle car restomods are worth around $300,000. Values for the famous muscle car are high, but way less than the crazy prices asked for the handful of ’71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda convertibles which are worth millions.

According to Classic.com, the 1969 Boss 429 Mustang is worth $308,000 and the ´70 model $254,000. There were under 1360 made, with twice as many made in the first year than the second year. Check out the video for some insight into the car, its background and most importantly the sound of the 800-hp, 8.4-liter V8.
