A.ban.doned Bulldog Forced To Live In The Streets With Severe Mange – 65
Dogs make up some of the most precious acquaintances we have in life and we are proud to call them family members.
We know that dogs deserve a great life but unfortunately, we often hear stories that things are quite the opposite for many animals.
That was the case with this bulldog puppy, who was eating leaves to stay alive. She was riddled with mange that was so severe she had lost almost all of her fur.
When Slaughterhouse Survivors heard about the dog, they were quick to react. It was obvious to them that the puppy had given up hope and accepted the fate that was before her. She was living on the street and that is where she would d.i.e as well.
The rescuers took the dog to a medical clinic and named her Pumpkin. Although she was just a puppy, she was depressed and didn’t even seem relieved that the rescue had taken place.
It was obvious that she was traumatized but would her new caretakers be able to take care of her both inside and out?
After being evaluated, it was found that Pumpkin had severe mange that left her with badly infected skin. She was suffering from extremely low body temperature to the point where it didn’t register on the thermometer.
Pumpkin was close to d.e.a.t.h. The veterinarian confirmed that she would not likely have lived another day on the streets.
They put Pumpkin on antibiotics, pain medication and IV fluids. They also helped her with warm saline through the IV to raise her body temperature.
Pumpkin reacted by spiking a fever. The veterinarian said it was the flu and that she would recover.
After Pumpkin had recovered from the flu, they began removing the scaly, d.e.a.d skin from her body. She looked more like a baby hippo than a puppy. It was at that point that she began to feel better and started to eat more food. Pumpkin now needed surgery for her eyes and it worked well.
It was encouraging that the dog’s fur started to grow back, thanks to her daily medicated baths. A rescue group had also found her a forever family in Los Angeles.
Now that Pumpkin is living with her family in California, she is able to go to the beach often. They renamed her and gave her a fresh start. Her name is now Kennedy and she is always close to her mother’s ankles. It also seems as if she loves peanut butter.
Kennedy is very happy in her forever home. She loves to play ball and she even has a doggie sibling.
Life is now good for this dog that started with a rough spot in life. It’s all thanks to rescuers, who would not give up hope.
