1996 Superformance Cobra R with Roush 427 Making 550 hp

If you’re a fan of classic cars, you’ve likely heard of the Superformance Cobra, a replica of the legendary Shelby Cobra. Since 1996, Superformance has been building replicas of the iconic 427SC body style, staying true to the original design in every way possible. However, the Superformance Mark III R takes things to a whole new level.

Introduction to the Superformance Cobra R

The Mark III R is a modernized version of the classic Cobra, and it looks every bit as stunning as the original. One of the standout features of the Mark III R is the updated exterior, which features a front splitter, side vents, and a rear diffuser, all of which give the car a much more aggressive look. But the updates don’t stop there. The interior of the Mark III R has also been updated, with custom gauges, leather seats, and a leather-covered tunnel.

The Exterior

Starting at the front, you’ll notice the traditional quick jacks, which are a hallmark of the Cobra. However, the front splitter is where things really get interesting. Not only does it add to the car’s aggressive look, but the design is also quite unique. Instead of going for something angular, the splitter curves out and comes back to meet the body, which gives the car a flowing, organic look.

Moving on, the side vents behind the front and rear wheels are also worth mentioning. You have the option to go for the traditional vertical slot vents or the graded vent, and you can also add strikes or remove them. Superformance offers a lot of customization options, so you can truly make the Mark III R your own.

The rear diffuser is another standout feature of the Mark III R. It’s a functional diffuser that wraps all the way under the car, giving it a race-inspired look. The anthracite stripes and trim on this particular car look fantastic, but you can choose any custom color or stripe package you want.

The Interior

The interior of the Mark III R has also been updated with a modern touch. Instead of the traditional gauges, you have the option to go for custom electronic gauges from Speedhut. The gauges are available in any color and add a touch of modernity to the cabin.

The leather seats are also worth mentioning. They’re double-stitched and have no piping, which gives them a clean, modern look. You can choose from a variety of colors and add custom inserts or special stitching on the door panels.

The Engine

Under the hood of the Mark III R is a Roush 427 engine, which produces an impressive 550 horsepower and 540 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a Superformance chassis, which features a square tube frame, unequal upper and lower arms, and custom-tuned Bilstein gas shocks. The Mark III R also comes with upgraded 18-inch wheels and a custom finish to match the car.

Driving Impressions

The Mark III R is a joy to drive, with endless torque and a fantastic exhaust note. It’s surprisingly planted and composed, even when you push it to its limits. The car also comes with massive 335 rear tires, which give it plenty of grip on the road.

Conclusion

If you’re a fan of classic cars but also appreciate modern touches, the Superformance Cobra Mark III R is definitely worth considering. It’s a fantastic tribute to the original Cobra, but with a lot of added features that make it a joy to drive.
