Sally The Mermaid Cat & Her Dad Share Their Special Connection To Inspire Others

Sally Mermaid Cat lives a life any cat would be purroud to have. She’s a spoiled kitty who has her dad wrapped around her fluffy, little paws. And dad Janez Jeretič wouldn’t have it any other way.

Janez and Sally Mermaid Cat have been together since he found her gravely injured in a park. From that moment on, Janez has helped his sweet purrmaid not only adjust to life as a paraplegic cat, but because of their hard work and dedication to each other, Sally lives a thriving life. And through her Instagram account, Sally and Janez are showing the world that special needs cats live happy lives and have tons of love to give. Plus, they look super adorable in mermaid tails!

Magical Mermaid Blooms from Tragedy

Around nine years ago, Janez was walking in a park in Chile when he found what he thought was a dead cat, telling Bored Panda, “She wasn’t moving.”

But then, the slightest movement in her front paws revealed the cat was still alive though in bad shape.

“I grabbed her and took her to a vet,” Janez explained. “They did some x-rays on her and realized she had a hunting bullet stuck in her neck, and told us that she would probably never walk again.”

But Sally had a strong will to thrive, and Janez had just the heart to help Sally become the spectacular purrmaid we know today. The journey was rough at the start, but together, they figured it out and discovered Sally’s mermaid persona along the way.

As Janez shared about Sally’s tail, “I wanted people to see Sally the same way I see her, as this beautiful magical creature who has suffered a lot but is now very happy with her life.”

And Sally doesn’t mind her tail as “she doesn’t feel it at all, but since it’s made from this fuzzy material it helps her keep the warmth in her body.”

Fashion and function, is there anything better?

The Magic of Special Needs Cats

Sally is indeed a magical cat, bringing a special light to Janez’s life. The smitten cat dad told Daily Paws, “It’s really enlightening to take care of something else in your life other than you.”

But for all the love and the special bond that forms between cat and human, taking care of a special needs cat requires commitment and patience.

Janez outlined just a little of the help Sally needs to Bored Panda, explaining, “I have to make sure I empty her bladder manually at least three times a day and make sure she has room to move around on her own without getting stuck.”

“So yeah, it is a lot of responsibility and work but the reward of seeing her happy, of hearing her purr when we cuddle, and of seeing her ‘running’ around the house to her favorite sunbathing spots makes it all worth it.”

If you’re ready to give your everything to a cat that needs some extra help in life, the reward is well worth the work. And Janez offered this advice to those considering it or new to the special needs cat life, “Just take your time. Get to see what works for you and your pet. It’s OK if you don’t know everything in the beginning, it’s always going to be a process.”

No matter the bumps and stumbles, your special kitty will thank you with lifelong snuggles and purrs of love, and that’s what living is all about!
